UBM Electronics took over as event producers of ARM TechCon in 2009, achieving growth of 39 percent year-over-year and doubling the event in size, since 2009. Highlights included: ARM CTO, Mike Muller's keynote announcement of the ARMv8 instruction set; Applied Micro's (APM) announcement of its X-Gene product that will be based on this same ARMv8 instruction set; and the first technical deep dive on big.LITTLE processing using ARM Cortex-A15 & Cortex-A7. There were also several new product announcements made by the ARM Connected Community including silicon developed by Applied Micro Circuits Corporation for the highly competitive server market which will cut power consumption in data centers by 40 percent. The ARM TechCon inaugural Best in Show Awards recognized the best-in-class technologies introduced to the market after ARM TechCon 2010. The awards were given in three categories: Chip Design, Hardware Design, and Software Design. The ARM TechCon Best in Show Chip Design award was presented to TSMC for its Reference Flow 12.0 and Analog/Mixed Signal Reference Flow 2.0. The ARM TechCon Best in Show Award Software award was presented to Tektronix for its Clarus and Certus tools. The ARM TechCon Best in Show Award Winner for Hardware was presented to a new Charitable Foundation aiming to sell computers into education at $25. A prototype board from the winner Raspberry Pi was demonstrated on the ARM stand and was discussed in a presentation in the Expo Floor Theatre. Additionally, UBM Electronics used ARM TechCon as the launchpad for the industry's first conference application pre-loaded on an ARM dual core tablet for conference attendees bundled with their All-Access conference pass.
