Web 2.0 Expo New York Kicks Off With Ignite NYC IIAn Evening of Geek Performances Co-Presented by the New York Television FestivalPRNewswire NEW YORK, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Web 2.0 Expo, produced by O'Reilly Media, Inc. and TechWeb, partners with the New York Television Festival (NYTVF) to present the second Ignite NYC, an evening of dynamic, original, and often surprising five-minute presentations from members of the Web 2.0 community. The event will be held on Monday, September 15th, 7pm - 10pm at New World Stages, 340 West 50th Street. Web 2.0 Expo New York happens September 16-19, 2008 in the Javits Convention Center. Web 2.0 Expo New York and NYTVF tap into the burgeoning population of Web innovators and geeks in New York City, showcasing their creativity by imposing strict constraints: each talk is exactly five minutes long, and exactly 20 slides, advancing automatically every 15 seconds. Ignite NYC happens the night before NYTVF's very first Digital Day, dedicated to exploring the creative side of the digital frontier and the opportunities created for producers exploring this space. Some of the talks already scheduled include: -- Don Carli on The Carbon Footprint of Banner Ads, Emails and Websites and Why You Should Care -- Deborah Schultz on Alley vs Valley -- Jennifer Pahlka on Technology Anxiety: Jello and Web 3.0 -- Sam Lessin on A Very Brief History of Privacy -- Nichelle Stephens on Cupcakes: The iPhone of Desserts -- Nate Westheimer on Magic at the Democratic National Convention -- Andrew Schneider on Experimental Devices for Performance -- Audacia Ray on Porn as a Front Runner in Technology Innovations ... With a Twist -- Krikorian Raffi-Holmz on Open Database for Energy Consumption "Ignite NYC II is a fitting kick-off to the inaugural Web 2.0 Expo New York and NYTVF's launch of Digital Day," says Brady Forrest, Ignite co-founder. "It represents a cross-pollination of the media and Web industries, bridging communities of technologists, artists, media executives and industry fans." The first 200 attendees of Ignite NYC will receive a cupcake, which can be devoured on the spot or used for the pre-show cupcake decorating contest. Ignite will start at 9 pm with ten featured talks that will be chosen from a pool of submissions. Speakers must adhere to the strict format, and are not allowed notes on stage. "Partnering with Web 2.0 Expo comes at an opportune time for the NYTVF as we move to embrace digital content along with more traditional TV programming at our festival," said Ned Canty, Festival Director. "We consider television to be a story told over time with visuals, and, in that sense, these Ignite talks fit within our definition of television. For us, what matters is not the platform; it's the art form." The first Ignite took place in Seattle in 2006, and since then the community-driven event has become an international phenomenon, with gatherings in three continents, seven countries, seventeen cities -- and growing. Venture capitalists, hackers, programmers, innovators, biologists, artists, crafters, journalists and designers come together to participate in these events. Doors open for Ignite NYC II at 7 pm. Admission is free and so is the beer. Full service cash bar open from 7pm - 9pm. For more information on Ignite NYC, please email Janetti Chon via jchon@techweb.com.
