He was also responsible for leading the information technology organization supporting over 60 million customers. Prior, Hinshaw worked as a consultant for Accenture, providing information technology consulting for several Fortune 100 companies and government agencies. He also worked for the Department of Commerce in the American Embassy in London and the Department of Defense Naval Engineering Command in Norfolk, Virginia.

Hinshaw serves on the CIO Advisory Board of Teradata. He also served on the Board of Directors of Men Stopping Violence, a non-profit organization for preventing domestic violence from 2005 to 2006; on the Advisory Board for the Masters in Information Systems Program of Stevens Institute of Technology from 2001 to 2004; and as Chairman of Peoplesoft's Communications Industry Advisory Board from 2000 to 2002.
