NEW YORK, April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Light Reading (http://www.lightreading.com/), the premiere information resource for next- generation communications, today announced its latest list of the Top 10 Movers & Shakers in the telecom industry. Light Reading is an operating unit of CMP Technology.

Light Reading's new Top 10 list can be found at: http://www.lightreading.com/document.asp?doc_id=121618.

The list, compiled by the editors of Light Reading, ranks figures in the telecom industry based on their performance in the preceding months and the likelihood that they'll have considerable influence on the industry's direction in the months to come. Those eligible for the list include executives from systems vendors, components manufacturers, and service providers, as well as venture capitalists, market analysts, and entrepreneurs.

"This list has seen an amazing turnover in just one year's time," says Phil Harvey, Light Reading's Managing Editor. "Last time around, there were two carrier CTOs and one high-ranking technologist from AT&T. This time, that's not the case.

"While we never count out the big telcos, we certainly can't say they were as cutting edge in terms of content delivery and IP communications as a lot of the folks on our list today."

Light Reading's new Top 10 list reflects the significant shift in power that has occurred within the industry recently, with the inclusion of six new names, the triumphant return of Joost founder Niklas Zennstrom (who hasn't made a Light Reading list since 2003), and a new No. 1 Mover & Shaker: Charlie Giancarlo, Chief Development Officer at Cisco Systems.

The latest list of Movers & Shakers comprises:

-- Charlie Giancarlo, Chief Development Officer, Cisco
  -- Matt Bross, CTO, BT
  -- Carl-Henric Svanberg, CEO, Ericsson
  -- Paul Sagan, CEO, Akamai
-- Basil Alwan, President of IP, Alcatel-Lucent
  -- Jagdeep Singh, CEO, Infinera
  -- Kevin Martin, Chairman, FCC
  -- Niklas Zennstrom, Founder, Joost
-- Robbie Bach, President, Entertainment & Devices Division, Microsoft
  -- Silvio Scaglia, Chairman, Babelgum

Since launching the first Top 10 Movers & Shakers list in February 2000, Light Reading has acquired a reputation for forecasting fame and misfortune for individuals on the list, well ahead of the curve.
