CMP Media Inc.'s NetGuide Magazine has acquired Online Access, the computer industry's first Internet publication. NetGuide will incorporate Online Access' paid subscriber base into its own starting with its April issue. Launched in 1986, Online Access which had a total circulation of 110,000, was published by Chicago, IL-based Red Flash Internet, Inc.

"Online Access was the industry pioneer," said Beth Haggerty, Publishing Director, CMP's Internet Media Division, which comprises NetGuide Live and NetGuide Magazine. "We're sure this venerable reader base is going to enjoy the depth and breadth of NetGuide. We look forward to sending them their first issue.

The acquisition of Online Access represents another in a series of circulation boosts for NetGuide Magazine, which debuted in December 1994 with a circulation of 200,000. The magazine has since increased its circulation by 63%, including a 32.2% hike in 1996.

Ad page growth

For the month of January, ad pages were up 76 percent over the same period last year, according to Cowles/Simba Information's February 3, 1997, issue of Computer Publishing & Advertising Report (CPAR). With ad pages for the full year 1996 increasing by 44.4 percent, NetGuide Magazine emerges as the fastest-growing consumer technology publication CPAR tracks.

"Many NetGuide readers are driving their companies' Internet and Intranet strategies," Haggerty said. "This translates into hardware and software sales."
