CMP Media LLC today announced record attendance on the final day of the 2005 Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco, including approximately 10,000 attendees comprised of engineers and engineering managers, media representatives and technology analysts, executives, financial analysts, venture capitalists, and more than 300 leading software and hardware companies. Now in its 17th year, the event is the largest systems design conference in North America, and today it is recognized as the world's largest exhibition and premier educational forum for the embedded systems industry.

The 2005 Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco featured many highlights, including the Microprocessor Summit, a new event in 2005 which attracted 185 participants and provided a successful forum for microprocessor companies to launch new embedded processor, microcontroller and digital signal processor architectures.

"For a first-year event, the Microprocessor Summit exceeded all of our expectations," said Jim Turley, conference chairman and editor-in-chief for Embedded Systems Programming. "We had six first-time announcements from major vendors, eighteen head-to-head competitive presentations, and plenty of give and take between attendees and vendors. Overall, it's the best place for an engineering manager to find the next, best chip for a new application."

During the Microprocessor Summit, six companies introduced new chip designs: ARM; Freescale Semiconductor; Xilinx Inc.; Dallas Semiconductor/MAXIM; Cradle Technologies Inc.; and Rabbit Semiconductor.

"The Microprocessor Summit was well organized and well attended by developers, silicon suppliers and the press," said Natasha Sinutko-Morgan, marketing communications manager for Freescale Semiconductor's Networking and Communications Systems Division. "Focused conferences like this are vital to the embedded microprocessor industry because they provide a venue for sharing late-breaking news, technical advancements, and alternative architectures and solutions that will ultimately further innovation within our industry."

Additional Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco highlights included a standing room only noon keynote address presented by Dilbert cartoon creator Scott Adams, more than 250 combined training programs and design seminars. The exhibit floor served as a launching pad for many new products.

"We noticed an increase in show attendance and the numbers of qualified leads at this year's Embedded Systems Conference," said Christopher Smith, vice president of marketing for Green Hills Software. "This is the most important event that we attend in North America."

Another successful feature this year was the EE Times ACE Awards, which drew more than 600 people and honored Intel's Co-founder and Chairman Emeritus Gordon Moore with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

"EE Times and the Embedded Systems Conference have had a long-standing reputation for recognizing and celebrating the creators behind the technology," said Moore. "As founder of two of the most important technology companies in U.S. history, I am honored to be among the many great awards recipients recognized at the EE Times ACE Awards for commitments to design innovation and product excellence."

The 2006 Embedded Systems Conference

The 2006 Embedded Systems Conference (April 2-6) will take place in the recently renovated and expanded San Jose Convention Center, a convenient location for many attendees and exhibitors whose businesses are located in the heart of Silicon Valley.

"CMP's decision to move the show to the San Jose Convention Center was prompted by the many enhanced infrastructure changes that the San Jose area has experienced in the past few years," said Lisa Ostrom, show director, Embedded Systems Conference. "Moving the Embedded Systems Conference to San Jose in 2006 will help us continue to deliver on our promise to bring great minds in embedded systems development together to share ideas and learn new and better ways to bring the latest technologies to the marketplace."
