Dr. Dobb's Journal (www.ddj.com), the most trusted magazine for professional developers, development managers and software architects, is launching its Google Summer of Code editorial series with the December 2005 issue. Google's Summer of Code program was designed for student developers, who were provided with a stipend to create new open source programs or to help currently established projects. Google awarded $4,500 to each student who completed the project. Dr. Dobb's Summer of Code editorial series will profile student participants, including their bios, schools and technical overviews of their projects.

"Google's Summer of Code is a very impactful project," said Jonathan Erickson, Dr. Dobb's Journal's editor-in-chief. "The program gave students the real-world experience of developing meaningful, sophisticated and working code under tight deadlines. It made significant contributions to the open-source community in particular and steered open communication among members of the software development community in general. We're pleased to acknowledge the efforts of the many student participants in our upcoming series."
