CMP Technology Honored by mercyFirst for Years of Mentoring Programs and Special ResourcesPRNewswire-FirstCall Last night at the mercyFirst Enchanted Evening awards ceremony at Oheka Castle, CMP Technology, a marketing solutions company for the technology industry, was honored by mercyFirst, one of New York's leading child-welfare agencies, for its continued support of the organization. Under the leadership of CMP employees, Sophie Chan and Susan Reynolds, the program has become an important part of CMP's volunteer efforts. CMP Technology has supported mercyFirst through its employee-driven nonprofit foundation, Community Connection. For more than 15 years, Community Connection has assisted hundreds of nonprofits nationwide. CMP Community Connection, combines community service and corporate giving, enabling employees to volunteer their time, place in-kind donations and buttress monetary support through employee volunteer grants and corporate matching contributions. "We are very proud of our relationship with mercyFirst and we're pleased to play a special role in the lives of the boys," said Steve Weitzner, president and CEO of CMP Technology. "Community Connection is an integral part of our corporate culture and extends the role of CMP employees into local communities nationwide." In 2002, CMP Technology and mercyFirst began a special partnership with a job shadow mentor program under the leadership of Sophie Chan and Susan Reynolds. Initially, mercyFirst teenagers spent four consecutive Tuesdays at CMP paired with employee buddies. Each week, they were given an inside look at different departments where they shared relationship-building experiences. Deemed a mutual success, the program became an important part of CMP's volunteer efforts at its Manhasset offices. Today, more than 65 CMP employees have been involved in mercyFirst activities, including job shadowing, CMP buddies, basketball and board games as well as pizza parties, winter carnivals, company picnics and holiday gifts. This relationship offers mercyFirst boys dependable friends who provide positive role models and consistent long-term mentoring. Also, in December 2005, with a special grant from CMP's parent company, United Business Media, mercyFirst renovated its gymnasium with fresh paint, new lights, a sound system, wall mats and a scoreboard. One mercyFirst alumni who participated in the mentoring program and the job shadowing program shared his experience about his mentor, Sue Reynolds. He said, "She taught me to believe in myself. She showed me how I could learn to do an interesting job and make a real success of my life. Sue and the people at CMP have given me a whole new outlook on my life -- they have encouraged me to try." Gerard McCaffery, CEO of mercyFirst, said, "CMP Technology has taken our boys into their hearts. Through their mentoring programs and special resources they have been a tremendous friend to our youth and our organization. We thank you on behalf of the children of mercyFirst."
