CMP's Network Computing Promotes Three Senior-Level Editorial ExecutivesPRNewswire CMP's Network Computing, the twice-monthly solutions magazine serving network/IS professionals, announced the promotion of three senior-level editorial executives. Patricia Schnaidt, Editor-in-Chief, assumes the newly created position of Editorial Director/Associate Publisher; Fritz Nelson, Editor, steps up to Editor-in- Chief; and Art Wittmann moves from Editor/New Media of CMP's Enterprise Computing Group to take over as Editor. "In 1996 Network Computing ranked number one in average issue audience in the networking category in both the Simmons and IntelliQuest studies," said Deborah Gisonni, Publisher of Network Computing. "Market share rose 3.6% to a total of 15.6%, and ad-page growth (up 25.1% in 1996 over 1995) eclipsed that of any other publication in the category. The promotions we're making are going to enable us to capitalize on our strong editorial depth while freeing Patricia to focus more time on the business side." As Editorial Director/Associate Publisher, Schnaidt will be responsible for overseeing editorial direction as well as assuming a larger role in the business side of the labs-based publication. Schnaidt joined Network Computing as Editor-in-Chief in 1994 overseeing editorial of the publication and Network Computing Online. Under her leadership, Network Computing scored the #1 position for reader loyalty across the networking category in the Simmons IV study. She has received editorial awards ranging from a Silver Ozzie from Cowles Business Media for Best Redesign of a trade magazine with more than 35,000 circulation, to the Jesse H. Neal Certificate of Merit for "Best Use of New Media" for Network Computing Online. In addition, The Western Publishers Association also nominated two Network Computing articles for the prestigious Maggie Award, and NewMedia Magazine selected Network Computing Online as a finalist, from a field of 900 entries, in the 1996 Invision awards. Prior to joining CMP, Schnaidt was founding Editorial Director for the Miller Freeman Network Group, where she launched and directed a variety of technology publications. Schnaidt is the author of Enterprise-wide Networks, a 500-page book published by Prentice Hall in 1992. The book instructs corporate and MIS managers how to plan, design, implement, and manage an enterprise-wide network and has sold more than 10,000 copies to date. Schnaidt was also the Technical Editor of The Information Superhighway: Beyond the Internet, which was also published by Prentice Hall. Nelson, who has been on the Network Computing editorial staff since 1992, was promoted from Executive Editor to Editor last year. As Editor-in-Chief, he will be charged with the strategic direction of Network Computing and Network Computing Online, overseeing all aspects of editorial and operations. With his five years experience on Network Computing, as well as his previous experience testing products for Lockheed Martin, Nelson has a clear understanding of how to deliver solutions-based editorial that addresses the tough technology and business issues facing corporate network/IS managers today. Wittmann moves from Editor/New Media for CMP's Enterprise Computing Group to Editor of Network Computing. Along with his duties at the Enterprise Computing Group, Wittmann has been penning a column for Network Computing. As Editor, he will be responsible for the content and operations of Network Computing and Network Computing Online. Wittmann has a seven-year history with Network Computing, where his most recent full-time position was Senior Technology Editor and the Strategic Labs Director of IT at the University of Wisconsin's Computer Aided Engineering Department. Given Wittmann's experience in print and new media publishing as well as in an IT organization, he is uniquely qualified to direct Network Computing. Network Computing delivers lab-based, real-world enterprise-wide solutions to 200,000* Network Technology Drives twice monthly. Its Web site is located at http://www.networkcomputing.com/.
