CMP Media LLC today announced that Fritz Nelson, VP/Publisher of Network Computing magazine, will also serve as VP/Publisher of Network Magazine. This dual role has been created to maximize complementary offerings between the two publications, while a recently combined sales force will provide advertisers with additional reach. In his capacity as VP/Publisher of Network Magazine, Nelson replaces Bill Howard.

The new structure is further evidence of CMP Media's ongoing commitment to deliver superior editorial content and marketing reach in the technology industry. Each magazine will retain separate editorial staffs while the editors-in-chief will collaborate closely to deliver the best content and perspective to their respective readers.

Network Magazine will continue to demonstrate journalistic excellence while providing the best architectural solutions for networks by focusing on the entire technology life-cycle, from emerging to maturing technology, to technology deployment and management.

By testing products in real-world environments, Network Computing's editorial team of IT experts will continue to deliver comprehensive technical evaluations through its unique methodology that mirrors the readers' technology evaluation and decision-making processes.

From designing the network architecture to executing on IT purchase decisions, Network Magazine and Network Computing deliver comprehensive access to key buyers responsible for critical stages of the IT investment process.

"CMP Media has made a strong commitment to growing these two brands," said Fritz Nelson, VP/Publisher of Network Magazine and Network Computing. "My new role and the combined sales force allow us to focus on the complementary nature of Network Magazine and Network Computing, ensuring that readers' complex information needs are met, and that advertising customers have differentiated editorial environments within which to deliver their messages, and differentiated audiences to which those messages can be delivered."

Effective immediately, Network Computing and Network Magazine will be sold by one sales force, giving both brands additional coverage throughout the nation and resulting in better and more efficient customer service. Advertisers will benefit from one point of contact for both brands, freeing up time to develop new marketing strategies and targets. John Siefert, formerly Western Regional Director, will serve as National Sales Director for the entire sales force.

In addition, as part of Network Magazine's emphasis on architectural solutions for today's networks and in line with its goal to deliver an extremely targeted circulation to its advertising partners, the magazine's circulation has been refocused and reduced to 125,000. The desire for more targeted advertiser messaging has reduced the need for Network Magazine's international subscribers. The redrawn target audience will consist of influential management-level buyers with high spending power responsible for making strategic technology architecture decisions within the enterprise. These 125,000 subscribers are responsible for annual average spending of approximately $52 million for storage, security and/or networking infrastructure*.

Previously, Nelson served in multiple editorial positions including editor-in-chief of Network Computing. He has been with the publication for ten of its twelve years. Nelson has served on the Networld + Interop advisory board and the Comnet advisory board.
