The 2nd annual Serious Games Summit D.C. (SGS) officially started today at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA. The success of last year's summit has brought additions to the conference program. The event spotlights the rapidly growing serious games industry which features the use of interactive games technology within non-entertainment sectors. The conference will run Monday-Tuesday, October 31 - November 1, 2005.

The summit provides a forum for game developers and industry professionals to examine the future course of serious games and their applications in areas such as education, public policy, science, national defense, homeland security and corporate training. Attendees can participate in more than 40 sessions, lectures and roundtable discussions covering a broad range of topics, including top-line design, production, implementation, and assessment issues related to the use of serious games. Case studies pertaining to game-based solutions and simulations used within education, healthcare and training will also be presented.

"Serious games are continuing to pervade organizations that traditionally rely on non-interactive methods," said Jamil Moledina, conference director. "The summit allows game developers and learning experts to share ideas on how such interactive solutions can effectively address practical challenges."

The event hosts an impressive lineup of keynote speakers from game studios as well as government organizations, including the Center for Naval Analyses, BreakAway Games and the Institute for Interventional Informatics. Various discussion topics during the conference include cost-effective development, regulations for serious games, future roles of serious game development, generating interest for your game, and grant proposal writing.
