InformationWeek Poll: Users Feel It's Likely That Network Computers Will Replace Desktop SystemsPRNewswire Nearly four of 10 respondents in an industry survey conducted by CMP Media Inc.'s InformationWeek magazine believe that network computers will replace desktop PCs as their organizations' primary computer platform. Results of the first of several InformationWeek NetWorld+Interop Industry Opinion Polls, conducted over the Internet, indicate that 39 percent of the poll's more than 550 participants feel it is either somewhat or very likely that network computers will replace desktop PCs as their organization's primary computer platform. Meanwhile, 59 percent of those polled felt that the platform shift is either somewhat or very unlikely, while two percent did not have any opinion. "The large numbers of respondents who believe network computers will replace desktop PCs is very significant, given that NC technology is just emerging from its infancy," said Rob Preston, News Editor, InformationWeek. Network computers, or NCs, are diskless workstations designed for business use that provide World Wide Web connectivity to the Internet and intranets.
