'Network Computing' Magazine Announces Winner of the First Foundation for Future Technology Leaders College Scholarship FundPRNewswire-FirstCall CMP Media's "Network Computing" Magazine has announced its first winner of the Foundation for Future Technology Leaders (FFTL) scholarship fund -- a unique collaborative effort to provide information technology educational scholarships and training programs to high school students. The scholarship is CMP Media's first program designed to directly deliver financial assistance to graduating high school seniors seeking college degrees in various fields of information technology. The winner is Johnson Nguyen of San Jose, Ca who was chosen by the "Network Computing" FFTL steering committee, including Craig Cornelius, Government CRM practice, Accenture, Dave Molta, Associate Professor at Syracuse University and John Wittmann, Administrator of the IT program at Chantilly High School, Fairfax County, VA. "We are excited to have the opportunity to support and invest in the next generation of the IT workforce. Johnson demonstrates not just superior knowledge about the IT industry but possesses the drive and determination it takes to excel," said Fritz Nelson, "Network Computing" vice president and publisher. "Johnson's course load bears witness to his commitment in the Technology field, he is bound for success. His contributions to the technology field are unparalleled and far surpassed the competition." Nguyen, who will receive a $10,000 college scholarship, is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School majoring in the Manufacturing Industrial Technology (MIT) magnet program. He is involved in a variety of IT related projects, including "Sciencepalooza 2000 & 2001," "Synopsis Silicon Valley Science and Technology Championship 2000." He also completed both the ACES program at Santa Clara University and the Cisco Networking and Oracle Database courses, won a 2nd place award winner at the MESA competition, and captained the 2000 "Tech Challenge" team. "Network Computing's" FFTL sprang from reader feedback to Nelson's Full Nelson column in the January 8, 2001 issue of "Network Computing" (http://www.networkcomputing.com/1201/1201fn.html). Dubbed "Back to School," the column described IT-related programming at Chantilly High School in Fairfax County, Virginia. Nelson again discussed information technology education issues as well as the vision and launch of the Foundation in the August 6, 2001, issue of "Network Computing." (http://www.networkcomputing.com/1216/1216fn.html). The steep, often unmanageable costs facing college students pursuing degrees in information technology fields as well as the deepening shortage of college-educated professionals to fill information technology management and staff posts, drove "Network Computing's" decision into launching the FFTL.
