Deborah Gisonni, formerly Publisher of CMP Media Inc.'s Network Computing, has been promoted to the newly-created position of Publishing Director for the magazine. Former Associate Publisher Jill Thiry Bowers has been named to the Publisher spot. Both promotions were announced today by Jeffrey L. Strief, Senior Vice President/Group Publisher of CMP's Enterprise Computing Group--which, along with Network Computing includes InformationWeek and CommunicationsWeek.

"Debbie and Jill have been instrumental in growing Network Computing into a dominant force in the network IT market," said Strief. "These promotions -- which acknowledge their outstanding contributions -- together with the recent promotion of Patricia Schnaidt to Editorial Director/Associate Publisher, puts into place a strong management team that will work to continue the publication's growth and extend the franchise."

Gisonni, who joined CMP in 1988 for the launch of Open Systems Today, has 13 years experience in high-tech publishing, including stints at Ziff-Davis and Gordon Publications. She held a variety of management positions at Open Systems Today, including that of Associate Publisher, which she held until being named Publisher of Network Computing in April 1994. As Publisher, Gisonni was key to the strong gains the publication witnessed last year in advertising revenue and readership.

Thiry Bowers -- who joined CMP in 1987 for the launch of two health care publications, Healthweek and Managed Healthcare News -- moved over to Network Computing in 1990 as District Manager for Southern California. She was promoted to Western Regional Sales Manager in 1992, to Associate Publisher/West in March, 1996 and to Associate Publisher last October. Prior to CMP, Thiry Bowers held marketing and operations positions at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Agency.

Network Computing led the seven-title networking category in ad page growth for 1996, according to Cowles/Simba Information's Computer Publishing & Advertising Report (CPAR)--increasing ad pages by 25.1 percent (502.6 pages) to 2,503 pages. In addition, the publication gained 3.6 percent in ad page market share -- the largest increase among the seven titles -- to account for 15.6 percent of networking category, according to The Auditor/TAP.

In 1996, Network Computing also posted strong readership gains for the third straight year. Mirroring the results of last year's Simmons CompPro IV study, the publication won all major readership categories among networking publications, according to the IntelliQuest CIMS v3.0. Network Computing's Average Issue Audience, at 531,000, was 33% higher than the next competitive networking publication.

Network Computing, a twice-monthly publication, provides 200,000 Network Technology Drivers with lab-based, real-world enterprise networking solutions both in print and online at http//http://www.networkcomputing.com/.
