18th Annual PC EXPO Showcased New Technologies That Redefine Business Computing

Technology Exchange Week New York to Debut in 2001

Pervasive business computing and personalization were among the major highlights of the 18th annual PC EXPO (http://www.pcexpo.com/). The IT Event for Business, held June 27-29, 2000, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, showcased hundreds of innovative mobile, wireless and Web-based technologies that extend productivity beyond the desktop. More than 600 exhibitors presented IT products and solutions to more than 80,000 registered business computing executives, analysts and press.

The PC EXPO conference program, sponsored by InformationWeek, featured more content than ever before. The program, "Redefining Business Computing," covered everything from personalization to xDSL, ASPs to e-marketplaces, and eCRM to wireless Web clients. Highlights included the Red Herring Entrepreneur Summit and SAN Summit. Workshops included Windows 2000, XML, WAP, Java and Linux. Conference sessions focused on ASPs, Pervasive Business Computing, Personalization, e-Business Strategies, Professional Prosperity and Channel Success. Special programs included: Novell's BrainShare on Tour, and iBreakfast's "Touched By An Angel at Start-Up World."

PC EXPO's Keynote Programs, sponsored by BusinessWeek, featured a keynote address each day followed by a keynote panel. Jeff Hawkins, founder, chairman and chief product officer for Handspring, and Alan Kessler, president of Palm Computing, were among the executives participating in the opening day keynote program on Tuesday, June 27th. On Wednesday, June 28, Jeffrey Bezos, founder and chief executive officer for Amazon.com, discussed emerging web personalization technologies. The final day of PC EXPO highlighted future technologies and applications. Ray Kurzweil, author and futurist, delivered a keynote address that gazed beyond the headlines and IPOs to imagine the changes to come in the next half-century. Jon "Mad Dog" Hall, executive director, Linux International and Mark Bolzern, founder LinuxMall.com discussed the integration of Linux in business in the final keynote panel.

For the first time ever, Cisco, Flashcom, Handspring, Internet Appliances, Novatel Wireless, Ricoh, Samsung Semiconductor Inc. and Transmeta exhibited at PC EXPO. Other leading IT companies exhibiting included: 3Com, AMD, Adobe Systems, Citrix Systems, Hewlett-Packard, Gateway, IBM, Intel, Iomega, Kodak, Microsoft, Minolta, Novell, Okidata, Panasonic, Sharp Electronics, Sony, Sybase, Toshiba, Verizon Wireless, Viewsonic and Xerox.

PC EXPO also featured dynamic pavilions that were dedicated exclusively for technology vendors to demonstrate their corporate IT products and services in specific technology categories, including: Linux, Mobile & Wireless, e-Business, Biometropolis, NYNMA/PC EXPO New Media Pavilion for Start-Ups and Upstarts, and the AlleyCat Small Business Lounge.

In addition to all of the exciting exhibitions, PC EXPO showcased informative and appealing special events. The CNET BEST OF SHOW Awards at PC EXPO recognized the hottest, most innovative and most influential products at this year's event. Winners included Transmeta Crusoe, Metricom, IBM and Sony. And the CRN Test Center, a mainstay at PC EXPO, tested more than 40 new products throughout the show.
