Network Magazine Announces Winners of its 14th Annual Product of the Year AwardsPRNewswire Network Magazine, CMP Media's monthly publication for network managers, has announced the winners of its 14th annual Product of the Year awards. One of the longest running product recognition programs of its kind, Network Magazine's Product of the Year awards are presented annually to those products that, according to Editor-in-Chief Steve Steinke, "are most significant to the Network Magazine reader population. Our editors reach a consensus on the importance of the pros and cons of the contending products to the reader community." The Product of the Year awards cover products and services across both the enterprise and the new public network. The criteria used to judge Products of the Year candidates include the broad appeal of the product to the publication's reader base; competitive enhancements that the product offers; price/performance advantages; technical ingenuity; new features and applications; and serviceability to the market. The Products of the Year selection process takes over three months to complete. Editorial judges are selected according to their particular areas of expertise. The Network Magazine staff then weighs the lead editor's nomination with comparative data to confirm the winners in each category. As in previous years, the 2001 Product of the Year categories reflect the rapid changes taking place in networking technology. The categories this year are focused on product areas essential to today's networking professionals, including security, servers, network hardware, wireless equipment, enterprise management software, troubleshooting tools and outsourced services. To qualify for Product of the Year consideration, each entry had to ship during calendar year 2000. "The Product of the Year awards provide network managers with key product information and technology trends they need to grow their business and organizations. Our editors research the intersection of the enterprise and the new public network to determine products and categories that matter most to readers," Steinke said. All Product of the Year award winners will be featured in the May issue of Network Magazine, which is circulated to 200,000 network professionals. Special awards recognizing this year's winners will be presented Wednesday, May 9th during Networld + Interop Spring 2001, at a reception at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
