WHAT: A new InternetWeek survey finds that IT managers continue to be
optimistic, albeit cautiously, about e-business spending
despite the current down economy. In fact, 74% of the
respondents told InternetWeek that concerns about the economy
are not causing their companies to scale back spending on
Internet-related projects. The survey of IT and e-business
executives offers an updated view of the leaders' 2001 spending
plans, following a January poll that found a slightly more
             bullish attitude among executives.

Highlights of the survey results include:
-- 48% of the respondents expect their company's Internet and
e-business spending to increase this year compared to last
year. That's down from 77% in January. However, those
expecting the same amount of spending jumped from 19% to
43%, confirming that IT leaders expect spending to at
least hold steady, and not decrease, in a volatile
                  economy.
-- 39% of those polled say they expect their company's 2001
Internet sales will grow at a faster rate in 2001 than in
2000, with only 15% expecting sales to slow.
-- 58% of the respondents say they are likely to get new or
already budgeted funding for key e-business initiatives
through the remainder of this year.
-- When asked about ROI, nearly half of respondents -- 48% --
say that demonstrating ROI for e-business technology and
projects is more critical right now than it was in
                  January.

InternetWeek expert Bob Violino is available to discuss these
survey results. InternetWeek will also provide graphs of
survey data. The full story is located on the Web at
