Retail Hacking Season Is Here: Debate & Discuss on Dark Reading Radio

It's been a year where hacking of retail stores - from Target, to Home Depot, to Staples - has become commonplace. The editors of Dark Reading look back at the past 12 months to see what security lessons have been learned.

NEW YORK, Nov. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- It all began 12 months ago with Target.

After a massive breach at the retail giant that led to the resignation of the CIO and CEO, the hacks just kept on coming: Neiman Marcus, Michael's, Sally Beauty, P.F. Chang's, Dairy Queen, UPS, JimmyJohn's, Staples, and Home Depot.

Yet, following a year of studying and trying to anticipate these retail breaches, customer information and company data remain vulnerable to cyber criminals that attack these systems. With the 2014 holiday shopping season about to start, security professionals are more concerned than ever about what could happen.

Join Dark Reading Executive Editor Kelly Jackson Higgins and a panel of security experts as they discuss the perils of retail hacking during a special edition of Dark Reading Radio. The broadcast happens this Wednesday, November 19, at 1:00 p.m. EST (10:00 a.m. PST).

Jackson Higgins, who recently wrote about the year-long retail hacking crisis for Dark Reading, will be joined by two security experts who have studied how cyber criminals attack the infrastructure of these businesses. They include:

  • Nick Pelletier, Senior Consultant with the New York City offices of Mandiant, where he has performed computer and network forensics for high-profile incident response investigations. Pelletier's particular areas of interest include network forensics and decoding attacker command and control traffic.
  • Arthur Tisi, Co-Founder and CEO of Praescripto Group LLC. Praescripto is building tools for the next generation of super-computing, cogitive computing, artificial intelligence, socionics, learning machines, and next-generation corporate security. Tisi is an advisor to several technology, retail, and entertainment companies and was formerly the CIO for Natural Markets Food Group and Fairway Market.

During the show, Higgins and her panel will discuss what retailers can expect this coming holiday season, and how companies large and small can do a better job of protecting customer and business data against security threats.

This edition of Dark Reading Radio happens on November 19 at 1:00 p.m. EST. Please join the discussion and lend your voice to the debate.
